GFG GROUP | PAYMENT SOLUTIONS YOU CAN BANK ON

Welcome to our online monthly update
for GFG customers and partners

In this issue mobile payments take centre stage. GFG Group has won a Telecommunications Mobile Application of the Year Award for software that enables a mobile phone to make payments in the same way as a credit or EFTPOS card. Convergence was also a key theme at our recent Cadencie User Forum, where we laid out our roadmap and strategy for emerging payment channels such as mobile. Also in this issue, we discuss a donor agency initiative to use mobile payments technology to bring banking services to poor people in developing countries. This month's Goldfinch Report looks at if developing countries can afford a developed world payments system. As usual, these sometimes controversial reports carry the disclaimer that they represent the personal opinion of Peter Goldfinch, rather than the views necessarily of GFG Group. We hope you'll find this update worthwhile. Please do send me your comments and feedback here and please do subscribe others as appropriate.

Best regards,

Can developing countries afford a
developed world payments system?

Poor people will not adopt banking services if they are required to pay the full cost of service and transaction fees, because the use of cash is considered by many to be 'free', writes Peter Goldfinch - GFG Group's General Manager for South East Asia. In this issue of the monthly Goldfinch Report, Peter uses the Maldives to discuss how pricing and other barriers can be managed to successfully create an effective payments system in developing countries. Peter's credentials have been earned over 23 years experience in electronic payments, including pioneering work on ATMs and EFTPOS, and the introduction of credit and debit cards in Russia.
