GFG GROUP - E-NEWS - March 2007
Welcome to our online update for GFG customers and partners
In this new year update we announce the most important product and brand redevelopment in GFG's history. After an intensive year of research and development GFG is delighted to announce the unveiling of Cadencie™ (previously known as GFG: UniCARD) and Simfonie™ (previously known as GFG: Mobile). These products have been migrated into tightly integrated payments products designed to meet the demands of a converging payments landscape. Customers can make payments anytime, anywhere, using virtually any payment device, whether it be a conventional card or a mobile phone. Following this convergence theme, this month's Goldfinch Report looks at why the payments industry will be significantly shaped and changed by Near Field Communications technology. This technology removes the need for any physical contact to occur between devices when making payments. The implications are huge - especially for a device such as the mobile phone, which can offer three-way communication between merchant, cardholder and issuer. As usual, these sometimes controversial reports carry the disclaimer that they represent the personal opinion of Peter Goldfinch, rather than the views necessarily of GFG Group. We hope you'll find this update worthwhile. Please do send me your comments and feedback.
Best regards,
Marie Tamplin

The Goldfinch Report: Near Field Communication means plastic card decline
Near Field Communications (NFC) technology removes the need for a payment instrument to make contact with a payment device to initiate a payment request. Removing this physical contact means the chip can be supported from a variety of form factors, making the plastic card redundant, writes Peter Goldfinch - GFG Group's General Manager for South East Asia. In this issue of the monthly Goldfinch Report, Peter considers what NFC means for the payments industry.
